International Collaboration in Combating Food Fraud

Food fraud, also known as Food Fraud, is an ongoing issue associated with the trade of food products. Suspicions of deceptive practices have existed for a long time and have been underscored by scandals such as the "Horsemeat Scandal" or the mislabeling of "Organic" products, particularly in the higher-priced segment.

Due to the cross-border nature of the food trade, close national and international collaboration is of crucial importance. This week, we welcomed a delegation from the Veterinary and Food Control Authority of the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district, along with their colleagues from Sweden, who are actively involved in combating food fraud.

The five-member Swedish delegation and Councilor Saskia Ellenbeck were warmly received by the Lemberg Team. During their visit, the delegates had the opportunity to tour our company. Given the high value of caviar, this product requires special protective measures against possible counterfeiting, and the delegation gained insight into the security measures implemented at Lemberg Lebensmittel GmbH.

Particular interest was directed towards import inspections conducted by Lemberg, including the examination of the fish species and the quality of caviar. Due to the significant trade volume of fish products by our company, measures for quality assurance were also thoroughly examined.

The Swedish delegation gained detailed insights into the structure of food control, the legal framework, including provisions of European law, and the resulting tasks. Challenges and difficulties of local and national food control were also discussed by Lemberg employees.

This collaboration on an international level underscores the necessity of a collective approach to ensure food safety and prevent fraudulent activities in the global food supply chain.

Lemberg served as a representative example of a German company strictly adhering to all standards of food control. This is reflected not only in our transparent practices but also in comprehensive internal control procedures. Emphasis is placed on ensuring that every step of our production chain adheres to the highest standards, from the selection of raw materials to the final packaging.

Close collaboration with international delegations, such as the one from Sweden, allows us to exchange best practices and learn from each other. We took the opportunity not only to showcase our own best practices but also to benefit from the experiences of the Swedish delegation.

We are proud to be part of this significant initiative and look forward to continuing to contribute to the promotion of best practices in the food industry.
